BACC TRAVEL

In a landmark gathering, leaders from the world’s largest economies have descended upon Brazil for the highly anticipated G20 summit, taking place this year in Rio de Janeiro. The summit, which brings together heads of state from 19 countries along with representatives from the European Union and African Union, is expected to focus on a range of global challenges, from economic recovery post-pandemic to climate change, trade, and international security.

Although Joe Biden is attending the event, many will be grappling with what Trump’s “America First” agenda will mean for the global economy.

Trump has a fundamentally different world view than Biden, preferring bilateral meetings where he can practice transactional diplomacy over multilateral partnerships like NATO.

But, according to government authorities, Biden will use the trip to send the message that America cherishes and invests in its alliances and thank those who have helped deal with an array of global problems.

G20

The G20 is the forum for economic cooperation among the world’s 19 largest economies, along with the European Union, and as of 2023, the African Union. With an annual rotating presidency, the G20 operates in yearly cycles, involving various ministerial and technical meetings that culminate in the summit of heads of state and government. In Rio, the G20 summit will be held on November 18th and 19th, 2024.
