Brazil welcomed 2.97 million international tourists in the first five months of 2023. The number is 108% higher than that registered from January to May of last year. According to the Ministry of Tourism, just in May more than 292,300 people visited the country, which represents an increase of 44.5% compared to the same month in 2022.

Most international tourists came from Argentina (1.24 million), the United States (271.1 thousand) and Paraguay (215.5 thousand). Combined, tourists from these three countries accounted for almost half of all foreigners who visited Brazil. Among the top five there are also Chile (197.8 thousand) and Uruguay (184.9 thousand).

The most popular destinations in Brazil were Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

Regarding the impact of tourism in the economy, the numbers also show growth. In the first five months, foreign tourists spent US$ 2.721 billion (about R$ 13 billion) in the country. The volume is 35.9% greater than what was obtained in the same period last year.
