The head of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Moreira Franco, assessed last March that developing the national security and defence industry is indispensable to consolidate Brazil’s global standing.

“We are a country of global prominence […] Both the defence industry and the organisation of the sector in the country are indispensable to consolidate Brazil’s role and contribution in the international scenario,” he said while attending the event “National Defence: A Strategic Agenda”, organised by the Special Secretariat for Strategic Affairs.

Integration

For Franco, it is essential to coalesce government, academia and the private sector around the development of research and innovation efforts in the area of national defence as a way of guaranteeing quality of life for all. “These are [the research initiatives] that have guaranteed improvements in the quality of life of the population with the incorporation of new technologies in their everyday lives,” he said.

In addition to the minister, the event was also attended by Sérgio Etchegoyen, acting Minister of Defence, General Joaquim Silva and Luna, and the Special Secretary for Strategic Affairs, Hussein Kalout.
