Brazilian singer Anitta won the Best Latin Music Video category at the MTV Video Music Awards, held at the UBS Arena in New York on Tuesday night (12).
This is the second VMA won by the Brazilian singer. Last year, Anitta became the first Brazilian to sing on the VMA stage and also to win a statuette for best Latin song with “Envolver”.
“I can’t believe it. Brazil, we’re here again. For the second time. Thank you to my fans, I wouldn’t be anything without them, I owe everything I have to them. I’m so grateful!”, said Anitta in her speech, in which she also thanked her record label, her team, her brother Renan, and herself.
“I want to thank myself, because I worked really hard! You’re listening to Brazilian funk and you’re going to hear a lot more, this is just the beginning!”, concluded the singer.
The winning video clip “Funk Rave” was competing with Bad Bunny (“Where She Goes”), Eslabon Armado & Peso Pluma (“Ella Baila Sola”), Grupo Frontera & Bad Bunny (“un x100to”), Karol G & Shakira (“TQG”), Rosalía (“Despechá”) and Shakira (“Acróstico”).
The video clip, which was creatively directed by the singer herself, has reached more than 16 million views on the YouTube platform.
Her performance rocked the UBS Arena
Anitta took the stage singing “Savage Funk,” from her latest album Funk Generation, and “Alegria,” a single with Tiago PZK and Emilia that came out in August. The singer also sang “Paradise” alongside Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and Tiago PZK.
At the end of “Paradise,” Fat Joe called Anitta the “Queen of Brazil.” The audience got excited and danced with the Brazilian singer.
Anitta released her album Funk Generation on April 26. A review of the singer’s new work by Rolling Stone noted that the album “thrives when Anitta takes risks” and added that the singer “has what it takes to pioneer the future of baile funk in pop and captivate audiences in Brazil and around the world.”
Swift once again leads awards
Taylor Swift’s dominance continues at the MTV Video Music Awards. This year, she took home seven awards — including the biggest of the night, music video of the year.
In her acceptance speech, Swift thanked her “boyfriend, Travis” for being on the set of the “Fortnight” music video and cheering her on. The public cherred.
“Everything this man touches turns into happiness, fun and magic,” she said, before switching the topic to the 2024 presidential election and instructing her fans 18 and older to register to vote.
Taylor Swift announced her support for Kamala Harris on Tuesday night (10) after the first presidential debate of this election cycle.
Swift’s awards haul brings her career total to 30, tying her with Beyoncé for the most-awarded musician in VMA history. Eminem is now the male artist with the most VMAs, with 15.
