September is coming soon. And everybody who loves Brazil and admires the Brazilian culture knows that it is time for the biggest New York City party of all. The 33rd edition of BR Day NY will be held on September 3rd, Sunday before Labor Day at 6th Avenue, between 42nd and 57th Streets and Little Brazil (46th Street) from 11am to 6pm. The producers of BR Day NY announced the lineup of the 2017 event.

CLAUDIA LEITTE
Energy and Charisma Direct from Bahia

Over the last decade Brazilian superstar Claudia Leitte has achieved incredible success as a singer and become an artistic reference point for her contemporaries.

Bringing with her a mixture of samba and reggae, and a sophisticated and innovative touch that has rendered her one of the most relevant businesswomen in Brazil, Claudia is a phenomenon with more than 26 million followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter combined.

In 2003, she started her career as vocalist of a local band in Salvador, Bahia, and in 2008 she started her solo career with her first album: “Ao Vivo em Copacabana” (Live in Copacabana). The album was awarded gold and triple platinum certifications. Thus, establishing Claudia as one of the country’s greatest stars. The sequence couldn’t have been better; “As Máscaras”, her following album, of 2010, was nominated to the category of ‘Best Contemporary Pop Album’ of the Latin Grammys.

At BR Day 2017, Claudia will sing her most famous songs and also new ones, such as “Taquitá”, a sunny song with super feminine lyrics, composed by her with Tierry, Samir, and Breno Casagrande, produced in Los Angeles and recorded in Bahia.

MARCOS & BELUTTI
Best of Brazilian Country Music

Marcos and Belutti are one of the most successful Brazilian country duo today. They are a frequent presence in the radio and Internet with one hit after another.

The duo started a career in 2008 with a show in Villa Country (São Paulo), one of the largest country music places in Brazil. Today, with nine years of career, they have four DVDs, six CDs and a Latin Grammy nomination. Their most popular hits include “Domingo de Manhã”, which was the most played song in 2014, and in the following year, “Aquele 1%”, which remained at the top of the charts for nine months.

In April 2017, Marcos & Belutti signed with Sony Music. The duo’s first release on the record label was the song “Eu Era”, which will soon land in the heart of New York City during the 33rd edition of BR Day NY.

SORRISO MAROTO
The Enjoyable Samba of the Carioca Group

Brazil and samba are almost synonyms. Therefore, a Brazilian party without samba is not a real Brazilian Party. The Rio de Janeiro’s group Sorriso Maroto will bring to BR Day 2017, the best of this typical Brazilian rhythm.

The band was born in 1997 when a group of friends joined and started playing. Bruno Cardoso, Cris Oliveira, Sérgio Jr., Fred Araújo and Vinícius Augusto debuted the first album, “Sorriso Maroto” in 2001. The group started being featured on radio and soon became one of the most popular samba bands in Rio de Janeiro.

Sorriso Maroto have partnered with several prominent artists, such as Ivete Sangalo, Michel Teló and Brian McKnight and, in 2015, their album “Sorriso Eu Gosto – Ao Vivo No Maracanãzinho” was nominated for the 16th Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Samba/Pagode Album category.

It’s apparent that Brazil’s largest party abroad will be greater than ever. Besides the concerts, the festival also brings typical Brazilian food, products and the most important of all, the joy of the Brazilian people.

BR Day New York is co-produced by the entrepreneur João de Matos, also founder of the event, by the newspaper The Brasilians and support of TV Globo.

The event was created in 1984 to celebrate the Independence of Brazil. Initially, the party was restricted to 46th Street, officially known as Little Brazil; but over the years it has grown so much that it was expanded to Sixth Avenue. Today, BR Day New York has an audience of about 1.5 million people who gather together to see and hear the greatest hits of Brazil.
