BACC TRAVEL

It has been informed by the Brazilian government that travelers from the U.S., Canada, and Australia will need to obtain a visa before entering the country, beginning April 10, 2025. The measure was supposed to be in effect on April 10 of this year, but it has been postponed by the Brazilian authorities to give more time for the electronic visa system to be implemented.

One of the requirements to obtain the Brazilian visa is to provide proof of income by showing the last three checking or savings account statements or the six previous pay stubs, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

And if you don’t have at least $2,000 in your bank account you’ll need a sponsor — typically a friend or family member — to sign a document called an affidavit of support, accepting financial responsibility for you.

Other requirements include a passport, a letter of intent, proof of residence, plane, or bus tickets, lodging reservations, and a payment of $80.90.

While this may seem overwhelming, the United States has even stricter requirements for Brazilians who want to obtain an American tourist visa. Besides paying a much more expensive application fee – US$185 – the Brazilians need to schedule an interview at their nearest embassy or consulate and, in this occasion, show several documentations showing their ability to pay for the entire trip as well as their intention to return to their home country after the trip.

Once approved, the Brazilian visa will be valid for ten years and it will allow for a stay of up to 90 days for activities such as tourism and business meetings.
