Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiro

Main Church of Our Lady of Candelaria

Built at the end of the XVI century or beginning of XVII century, in neoclassical style, the Church stands out visually for its dome, made from lioz stone. The side chapels are dedicated to the most Holy Sacrament and to Our Lady das Dores.

Monastery of São Bento

Located on the top of São Bento Hill, next to Mauá Square, the architectural complex, includes the Abbey Church of Our Lady of Montserrat, it is considered one of the most important historical land religious heritages of the 17th century. Its exterior aspect is austere and contrasts  with the richness of its interior: the gold-leafed  baroque carvings plated in 18 carat gold: the main altar and its silver lamps houses in the center the image of the head of the church flanked by Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastic.

Church of Our lady of Outeiro of Glória

Considered one of the most expressive heritage of colonial and religious architecture, the Church of Our Lady of Gloria of Outeiro was declared a national monument in 1937 and in the following year, it was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN).The place is of historical importance for cariocas because in the past it was an strategic point taken from the French by Estácio de Sá, who, despite being successful in the battle died poisoned by an arrow.
