The award-winning Brazilian movie “Executive Order”, starring Taís Araújo, Seu Jorge and the Anglo-Brazilian actor Alfred Enoch, and directed by Lazáro Ramos, will be screened in a special session in New York, on Wednesday, December 7, at 7 pm, at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. After the screening, Lazáro Ramos and Taís Araújo will participate in a panel discussion and will answer questions from the audience.

Set in a dystopian near future in Rio de Janeiro, a lawyer sues the Brazilian government for reparation of all descendants of African slaves in the country.

The authoritarian government responds by signing an executive order sending all black citizens to Africa as an excuse to repay the debts of slavery – creating chaos, protests, and an underground resistance movement that inspires the nation.

Seeing themselves in the center of terror, two cousins take refuge in an apartment, where they debate social and racial issues, and share the same yearning for the change of country.

The film, which launches actor Lazáro Ramos as a director in cinema, won a series of awards, including here in the United States. Recently, at the main Brazilian film festival abroad, the Inffinito Film Festival, “executive Order” received three awards: Best Script, Best Film and Best Supporting Actor, for Seu Jorge. Prior to that, It had already received other awards, such as Best Screenplay at the Indie Memphis Film Festival.

Lázaro Ramos also received the award for Man of the Year in Cinema, by GQ magazine.
