The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 1.2 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous period. It is the fourth consecutive quarter in which the product has had a positive result. The GDP reached BRL 2.404 trillion in current values.
The figures were released today (Sep. 1), in Rio de Janeiro, by the government’s statistics agency IBGE and reveal that the GDP increased 2.5 percent in the first half of the year.
Services
According to IBGE, the growth in the second quarter was influenced by the 1.3 percent increase in service sector. IBGE’s coordinator of National Accounts Rebeca Palis informed that services are weighing 70 percent in the economy, so there is a greater impact on this result.
“Other service activities (3.3%), transportation (3.0%), and information and communication (2.9%) have pulled this increase. In this category, we have on-site services, which were dammed up during the pandemic, such as restaurants and hotels, for example,” she added.
