History and Culture
Tradition, history and culture merge as a legacy for generations. Guarapari was fortunate enough to have welcomed, during the colonial period, one of the most significant figures of the church and the history of Brazil: Father José de Anchieta. Thus, under the guise of catechesis and brotherhood, Guarapari was born. It was in 1569, when Father José de Anchieta walked through the lands of Espírito Santo as Visitor of the Jesuits in charge of establishing new villages for catechesis of the indigenous peoples Goitacazes, Purus, Tupiniquins and Aimorés. On top of a hill, a convent was built for missionaries and a church was devoted to St. Anne, and this village was named Aldeia do Rio Verde or Aldeia de Santa Maria de Guaraparim.
Guarapari is located 53 km or about 1hour from the state capital Vitória.
