In less than four months – on June 14th, to be precise – the 21st FIFA World Cup kicks off at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, as the hosts take on Saudi Arabia.
That leaves us plenty of time to enjoy a countdown. Between now and the start of the World Cup, we will take a closer look at a different statistic from the history of the tournament each day.
96 is the number of Brazilian players who can call themselves world champions. Among the many players to have celebrated one of A Seleção’s five World Cup wins is Cafu, who captained the side to glory in 2002. The former defender is also Brazil’s most-capped World Cup player, with 20 matches to his name, ahead of fellow world champions Ronaldo (19 games), Claudio Taffarel, and USA 1994 skipper Dunga (both 18).
