Since November, Australian tourists wishing to visit Brazil temporarily can apply for their visa electronically.

The visa is issued within 72 hours of the request made by the tourist. The benefit is also valid for business trips.

In January 2018, the electronic system begins to apply also for Canadian, US and Japanese tourists. Before, tourists from these countries had to travel to Visa Centres and Brazilian consulates in their countries to apply for visas to enter Brazil.

“The facilitation of visas aims to reduce bureaucracy and, above all, to boost the entry of foreign tourists into Brazil,” said Tourism Minister Marx Beltrão. The expectation by the Tourism Ministry, based on data from the World Tourism Organization, is that the measure will increase foreign tourist inflows to Brazil by up to 25%.
