The executive secretary of the Investment Partnership Programme (PPI), Moreira Franco, as well as ministers Henrique Meirelles (Finance), Fernando Coelho Filho (Mines and Energy) and Maurício Quintella (Transport, Ports and Aviation), held meetings with investors in New York. During the meetings, the delegation that accompanied President Michel Temer in his official trip to the United States spoke about investment opportunities in Brazil, particularly the concessions and privatization package announced by the government.
Maurício Quintella said receptiveness of the PPI by US investors was “the best possible”. According to the head of the Transport, Ports and Aviation Ministry, the concession model is attractive and was built in conjunction with the private sector. “The expectation is that we have great interest by investors and infrastructure operators in this first round of auctions in Brazil. With the improved programme, the trend is that these investors increasingly participate in these infrastructure projects, which are fundamental to the development of the country,” he said.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Fernando Coelho Filho, followed on the same lines, and emphasised that the new concessions programme will also generate jobs in Brazil. “With the announcement of the Investment Partnership [Programme], investors are expressing interest in knowing what the government has in mind and which assets will be granted to the private sector. With this, we can attract more investment to Brazil, create more jobs and generate more income for our people”.
