Et Alia Theater, a New York-based theater company made up of women from around the world, will present “Until Dark” by Federica Borlenghi, a new play that reflects on sexual consent and the complexities of sisterhood, testing its bonds and limits.
The play will be showing at Out of the Box Theatrics (154 Christopher St, New York City) from February 15th to March 3rd. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com.
Two Brazilian actresses and producers, Luísa Galatti and Ana Moioli, are in the cast.
“Finding this play was probably one of the best things that has ever happened to us. Not only because it addresses woman’s point of view, delicately addressing the topic of sexual consent, but it also deeply explores the relationship between sisters. Building Et Alia together, as friends, it allowed us to build a sisterhood relationship between us, so the first time we read “Until Dark,” it was like a glove. We had the opportunity to explore our own relationship on stage, and what a wonderful experience we are having!” said Luisa Galatti.
Et Alia Theater is a group of women from around the world who come together in New York City to create art. The mission is to celebrate diversity and give a voice to international women through the performing arts. Et Alia is not just a theater group; is a supportive community that provides performance opportunities and arts programming for international artists in New York. They work to create a space where people looking for a home can express themselves and connect with each other.
Established in 2019, Et Alia Theater is led by Ana Moioli, Giorgia Valenti, Luísa Galatti and Maria Müller. In previous works, the group addressed topics such as immigration barriers, cultural clashes and variations in eating disorders in women from different countries, in addition to using their multiple languages and cultures as a tool to rediscover theater in New York.
The company has performed at several of the city’s award-winning Off-Broadway theaters, including Theaterlab, HERE, The Brick and Rattlestick. In collaboration with Aurora Nova Production and as part of the international event Let There be Theater: A Call to Action, Et Alia was the US ambassador for the renowned global play ‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit’ by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour.
Until Dark will be the group longest season to date, produced in the recently renovated Out of the Box Theatrics space (formerly the New Ohio Theater). The play was the winner of the Et Alia Theater Lab in 2023: ‘art by the other’, the company’s play development program.
