An initiative from the Brazil Convention & Visitors, the Brazilian Events Bank, Bureaux (BRC&VB), will register traveling international events and destinations interested in hosting them according to the demand presented.
Since its launch in 2016, the bank has already registered 115 destinations. With information provided by event organizers – attractions of interest, a number of beds and available infrastructure – towns and cities may apply to host the event and start to lure the conference or trade show in question.
The year of 2016 was record breaking in relation to international events, with 12,212 of them being staged around the world. However, Brazil only managed to attract 244, in other words, less than 2% of this total.
“We have created this tool with the goal of helping Brazil to attract more and more events, as we believe that business tourism, as well as leisure tourism, may be an important driver in the Brazilian economy, able of generating jobs and income in all segments”, stated the Brazil Convention & Visitors Bureaux president, Márcio Santiago.
The Events Bank was launched on 14 December 2016. “The events tourism sector in Brazil contributes in an important way to our activity, but we can go further and structuring the event’s bank is a paramount initiative to attract more events”, defended the Tourism Minister, Marx Beltrão.

According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), in 2016 Brazil remained the South American country to have hosted the most events (244) in the continent.
According to the International demand study of the Ministry of Tourism, 20.2% of foreign tourists who came to Brazil in 2015, did so for business, events, and conventions. The most sought-after cities were: São Paulo (45.1%), Rio de Janeiro (24.5%) and Curitiba (4.2%). The average per capita tourist spending was of US$ 82.48, more than the value of leisure tourists – US$ 67.12.
