Another award for Fernanda Torres. After winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in the Drama category in the beginning of January, the Brazilian actress who played Eunice Paiva in “I’m Still Here” won best actress in a drama film at the Satellite Awards, presented by the International Press Academy. Torres competed against Angelina Jolie, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicole Kidman, Saoirse Ronan, and Tilda Swinton.
The best actress in a comedy or musical was Demi Moore, who is competing with the Brazilian star at the 2025 Academy Awards.
“I’m Still Here” was also in the running for best international motion picture—but the winner was “Waves”, from the Czech Republic.
The Brazilian is also in the running for the Oscar 2025 under best actress. In the race for the golden statuette, I’m Still Here has received an unprecedented nomination for best picture and is also in the running for best international film.
The Academy Awards will take place on March 2 in Los Angeles, California, during Carnival week in Brazil.
“I Am Still Here”
One afternoon in 1971, Rubens Paiva, a former congressman and outspoken critic of Brazil’s newly instituted military dictatorship, was taken from his home in Rio de Janeiro by government officials, told nothing more than that he must give a “deposition” to authorities, and disappeared. Adapted from his son Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s memoir, this overwhelming, richly realized political drama from Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) stays tightly wedded to the perspective of Rubens’s wife, Eunice (a shattering Fernanda Torres), whose indefatigable search for the truth about her husband would stretch out for decades. A devastating true story, “I’m Still Here” is exhilarating in its portrayal of human tenacity in the face of injustice.
