Around 8 million people enjoyed Carnival in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Six million revelers were spread across 399 street block parades, including the Avenida Marquês de Sapucaí, Intendente Magalhães, Terreirão do Samba parades, popular dances and parades on Avenida Chile and Cinelândia, in the center.

About R$5 billion were injected into Rio’s economy, with R$500 million being from collected in Services Taxes (ISS). In the tourism and event sectors alone, R$40 million in service taxes (ISS) were collected. In addition, more than 50 thousand direct jobs were created.

The economic results of this year’s carnival were released this Wednesday (21) by Riotur. “It was a carnival with record attendance, service tax collection, and infrastructure. We broke the record with 60 popular dances”, said the president of Riotur, Ronnie Costa.

Marques de Sapucaí alone had around 120 thousand people per day in six days of parades. Terreirão do Samba had 41 attractions in 10 days of event. The carnival in Intendente Magalhães saw 250,000 people taking part in six days of parades. The popular dances held by Riotur attracted 720,000 people on 60 stages over the four-day event.
